Thank you for interest in purchasing one of Shield Kennels puppies. We want to make this a stress free enjoyable experience for you as possible. Please feel free to email or call us with any questions or concerns that you might have along the way. We will keep you up to date with information about your puppy as it grows until it is time for your puppy to go to its new home. It will be and is up to Shield Kennels to decide when the puppy will be ready to leave Shield Kennels to go to its new home. They are usually ready at the age of 9 to 10 weeks. Many studies have been done showing the extra week or two with the mother help the puppies adapt to the big world with less anxiety and better socialization skills taught by their mother and learned from litter mates. Plus we want to make sure the puppy goes through their first fear stage before going home.

Shield Kennels prepays AKC paperwork. With this option you will be able to add a co-owner to the papers without an an extra charge. We use Fi Nano micro chips for all puppies. All chips have Shield Kennels as a back-up. This will insure if your puppy gets lost and you are not able to be contacted, I can go pick up the pet for you or make arrangements for your puppy to get out of the shelter.

The puppy/dog is sold as limited registration (unless prior arrangements have been made). At two years, we can evaluate the dog for full registration. After OFA, Pennhip or SV hip and elbow testing are completed at owner’s expense, the registration can be changed to Full Registration for the cost of the AKC change fee and $25 filing fee. Shield Kennels prides itself on responsible breeding. If a Shield dog was purposely bred prior to testing and/or before 2 years old, there will be a $5,000 fee payable to Shield Kennels. AKC papers will be forfeited and the 3 year health guarantee will be voided, in addition to possible legal action taken to remove the dog from the residence if deemed an unsuitable living situation for the dog. We support and will mentor in responsible breeding practices, but irresponsible breeding practices will not be tolerated.

Shield Kennels does not guarantee size. We will give the buyer the weight of the puppy’s parents and the weight of other puppies out of that mating. We can give the buyer an educated guess as to full-grown weight, but there are too many variables, including genetics and environmental factors to make guarantees.

Shield Kennels assumes no responsibility for training difficulties or behavior problems. Buyer will receive an informational packet on how to train their new puppy. Shield kennels does offer information on local training classes and is always willing to give advice and training tips. We highly recommend to place the puppy into a puppy socializing and training class. A dog being returned due to behavior problems and training issues will not be guaranteed.

If for any reason the buyer is unable to keep the puppy, they agree to return the puppy to Shield Kennels and not place the puppy in another home, shelter, rescue, pound or any other housing or placement facility unless given written permission by the breeder of Shield Kennels. If a puppy is returned within the first 15- 30 days for any reason other than warranty, 75% amount of the purchase price will be refunded after the puppy has been placed in his/her new home. If returned after 30 days to 2 years, 50% the amount of the puppy will be returned. Over 2 years, 25% of the cost will be returned. Remember we have to re-advertisement, keep up on training (or retrain if necessary), and keeping the puppy/dog current on vaccinations and worming until the puppy/dog is placed in his/her new home. Under no circumstances can the dog be re-homed without Shield Kennels permission.

Shield Kennels takes pride in their German Shepherds and Icelandic Sheepdogs. To keep pedigree lines and accurate registrations, the dog will be named by Shield Kennels. Each dog will have the suffix "von Shield" in the registered name (such as Armor von Shield). The call name can be added to papers as well (call name as Brooke, registered as Brooklyn Armor von Shield).

Shield Kennels feeds their dogs Victor Nutra Pro. You will receive some of the food they have been eating the past few weeks to give time to purchase additional food or aid in food transitioning. Please feed this food for at least a month if you are going to change foods. Some of the foods we recommend are Victor, Farmina, Nutri Source, Zignature, Canidae, and Fromm. There are many other foods out there, but please feed a brand that is rated 4 stars or above on the Dog Food Advisor.
